Home Essentials Every Man Should Own (Updated 2023)

Any man worth his salt needs to have certain items in the home. Things that let guests know I’m not a college kid anymore.

Most of the men I knew after college didn’t start upgrading their homes until their mid-late twenties. Some of the men I know are in their thirties and still don’t have most items on this list.

In the dating world, you want to set yourself up for success.

So, when it comes to impressing guests, especially female guests, you’ll want to ensure you have all these home essentials.

Matching Bed Set

If you don’t already have one, make this your top-priority purchase.

Unless you’re still in college, you need to have a matching bed set. No decent woman will take you seriously if you keep rocking your mix-and-match pillowcases and comforter.

And remember, if your date is uncomfortable in your home, it hurts your chances of hooking up.

I remember when my roommate came home with a new bed set. I looked at his room and then looked at mine. I was embarrassed. It wasn’t until I saw the side-by-side comparison that I realized how much I was slacking. I went to Ross the next day and picked one up for $60.

Towel Set

This is important to make a woman feel comfortable in your home.

Your bathroom should be clean and inviting; a clean set of matching towels goes a long way.

I’m talking shower towels AND hand towels. My last roommate didn’t even have hand soap in his bathroom. That’s gnarly, but it’s just as bad if you wash your hands and are afraid to dry them on the available towel.

If a woman feels comfortable washing up at your place, she’ll be more likely to want to stay the night next time. Trust me. The little things go a long way.

Throw Blankets

Do you want to Netflix and chill?

Ensure you have at least one or two throw blankets to cuddle underneath.

Thinking about watching tv with a lady and not having a blanket is awkward. Plus, a blanket is a perfect excuse to get close to each other.

Pro Tip: Get a throw blanket for your bed set to add contrast and instantly class up your room.

Wine Glasses

I didn’t own wine glasses until I was like 27. Like most young men, I didn’t drink much wine myself, so it didn’t seem like a necessary purchase.

Looking back, I can’t believe I used to have girls over and serve them wine in pint glasses with beer logos. What a bum!

You can find stemless wine glasses cheap on Amazon or Target. It is a small price to pay, and it lets your date know that you aren’t an immature little boy.

Bluetooth Speaker

Nothing sets the mood like some music.

If you’re playing music on your phone when you have guests over, that’s a bad look. Even the mini speakers are better than your phone. I recently purchased one as a Christmas gift at Target for $40.

I recommend getting one that’s portable. It’s clutch when you hit the pool, hot tub, park, or beach.

Quality Hand Soap

Hand soap is an obvious must-have. Spend the four dollars extra for the nice stuff.

You’ll enjoy it, and your guests will appreciate it. It’s a small expense that makes your home feel more sophisticated.

I recommend getting a more masculine scent, like sandalwood.

Bathmat

You’re probably starting to see a pattern here – get your bathroom in order!

So, you have the towels, now you’re all clean, and you’re going to do what? Step onto the bathroom floor while you’re wet and drying off? I don’t think so.

You can get a memory foam microfiber bathmat for $30. It will be washable and should last at least a couple of years.

When I got my first bathmat, I instantly felt like I was living a life of luxury. Check out options in person to touch the material and see what you enjoy.

Oil Diffusers or Candles

Oil diffusers are so relaxing. It helps make your room feel like a haven from the chaos of life and makes falling asleep a dream.

You can get a nice masculine oil blend like Wood Sage or Leather. You’ll love it, trust me.

As for candles, these are best used in the restroom, kitchen, or living room. Again, you can get a masculine scent that sets the mood and helps people relax.

Bar Cart or Mini Bar

It’s possible that this is the fastest way to class up your place, and there are so many affordable options.

I’m talking $50-$100. If you bring guests over and have a stocked bar cart, you’ll instantly seem like you’ve got your shit together. If you don’t have space for a full-sized bar cart, opt for the liquor shelf or counter caddie that fits on the kitchen counter.

Bedroom Lamp

There is a middle ground between a full-lit bedroom and complete darkness, and that middle ground is found with a bedroom lamp.

We usually want to turn the bright lights off when getting intimate in the bedroom. Still, we also want to avoid complete darkness.

Get an affordable bedroom lamp that provides a pleasant low light. It’s great when trying to wind down at night and even better when you want visibility in those more intimate situations.
